[WS1] In the same post he adds that he will later "dig out the only early engraving we have seen that shows a pair of sort-of winding sticks in use" [WS1] (read directly in this pass). So the accurate statement is: Follansbee and Alexander reported finding no mention in Moxon's Mechanick Exercises or Randle Holme's Academy of Armory, while Follansbee also noted an early engraving of a "sort-of" pair that still needs identifying. Preserved as strong named-practitioner research evidence, not as proof that period ancestors or period use are undocumented across the historical record.
